Flagstaff Cottage began life as a thatched, cob-walled dwelling in the 13th or 14thcentury. The original north wall remains standing as a testament to the ability of cob (a mixture of mud and straw) to withstand the elements.
In the 19th century it was remodelled in the gothic style as the village infant school and is shown as such on early Ordnance Survey maps. In the last century the building was acquired by the Liberal Party and used for many years as a meeting place/snooker room. Its last incarnation, we believe, was as the village scout hut until, in the 60’s it was abandoned and left to decay.
The cottage has now been lovingly renovated and turned into a two-bedroomed holiday let with all modern luxuries but with “old world” charm and ambience. The sleeping arrangements are very flexible allowing one or two couples, or a family of up to four to stay in comfort.

Bedroom 1 has a choice of twin beds or a super kingsize double. The leaded, gothic-arched window gives a view down the lane to farmland. A built-in cupboard provides plenty of storage.
Bedroom 2 is a double room with two, pretty little windows looking onto the garden. Again there is no shortage of cupboard space for clothes. The living room is full of character and, with its high ceiling and tall, elegant window, evokes images of its days as a schoolroom. These days, however, instead of desks there are two comfy sofas, a TV with DVD and CD playing capabilities and a dining table and chairs. The kitchen area is very well equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, fridge, washing machine, dishwasher and microwave. In the beautifully tiled bathroom you will find all you need – a generous bath with shower over, washbasin and toilet.
